DOGE announces termination of leases for 18 federal offices in Colorado | Government

The federal government has announced the termination of leases for nearly 750 federal offices across the country, including 18 in Colorado. The decision was made by the General Services Administration (GSA) as part of President Donald Trump’s initiative to eliminate waste and reduce inefficiency in government operations. The Department of Government Efficiency website reveals that almost 10 million square feet of government real estate properties are being canceled or modified.

The termination of these leases is expected to save the country $105 billion, which amounts to approximately $652 in savings for the average taxpayer. The Trump administration has also released a list of federal buildings that could potentially be sold as part of downsizing efforts.

In Colorado, federal offices targeted for lease termination include U.S. Geological Survey facilities in Golden and Boulder, the National Forest Service facility in Fort Collins, and the Civil Corps of Engineers office in Durango. The decision to terminate some leases has been rescinded for offices like the U.S. Attorney’s office in Grand Junction, but others, like the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service office in Littleton, are still facing termination.

Overall, the GSA is working to optimize the government’s footprint and building utilization, as well as secure suitable alternative space for affected offices. Stephen Ehikian, the acting administrator of the GSA, aims to make government operations more efficient and effective. The termination of leases is part of a broader effort to streamline government operations and cut costs.
