A husband shot his wife outside an elementary school in Wichita, Kansas after dropping off their children for class. The shooting occurred at around 9:15 a.m. local time in front of Cessna Elementary School. The woman sustained a gunshot wound to the chest and ran towards the school for help. When a deputy arrived, the suspect pointed a gun at the victim’s head, prompting the deputy to shoot and arrest the suspect after a brief confrontation.
Prior to the shooting, the couple had taken a Lyft ride to the school, and officials have interviewed the driver and other witnesses. Both the suspect and the victim were taken to a local hospital for treatment. The school was placed on lockdown during the incident, but no students, teachers, or staff were injured.
Sheriff Easter emphasized that there was no school shooting, as the incident did not involve any students or staff being hurt or in danger. Law enforcement responded quickly to the scene, preventing any harm to the school community. The names of the suspect and victim have not been released, and further information from the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office is being sought.
