Norah O’Donnell’s Latest Book, “We the Women,” Reveals the Untold Stories of History’s Female Revolutionaries

Press Release: Norah O’Donnell Unearths Forgotten Female Pioneers in "We the Women"

CBS News senior correspondent Norah O’Donnell has made a surprising discovery while researching her upcoming book, "We the Women" — a woman’s name featured on the Declaration of Independence. Mary Katharine Goddard, the daring printer who risked charges of treason to print this historic document, exemplifies the forgotten female pioneers O’Donnell highlights in her book.

In an appearance on "CBS Mornings," O’Donnell shared her motivation for the project, which celebrates women from 1776 to the present. With America’s 250th birthday approaching in 2026, O’Donnell emphasizes the importance of recognizing women’s contributions throughout history. "This was such a passion project," she stated, lamenting her own lack of exposure to women’s roles in historical events during her schooling.

The book features influential figures such as Katharine Wright and Emily Warren Roebling. O’Donnell remarked that had Wright been male, she would have been celebrated as the third Wright brother, while Roebling played a crucial role in the construction of the Brooklyn Bridge.

"The bravery of these women is monumental," O’Donnell reflected, expressing her hope that their stories will inspire young girls. She added, "These women had such grit and such courage at times when they had very few rights."

"We the Women," set for release on February 24, 2026, is currently available for preorder. O’Donnell’s work aims not only to enlighten readers about these extraordinary women but also to redefine the narrative of American history by acknowledging the contributions of women who have been overlooked for far too long.
