Denver International Airport Welcomes Airbus A380 for Summer Flights

Denver International Airport (DIA), the largest airport in North America, is set to welcome the world’s largest passenger aircraft, the Airbus A380, this summer. Lufthansa Airlines will commence daily flights from Denver (DEN) to Munich (MUC), marking a significant milestone for the airport. The first Airbus A380 landed at DIA recently, showcasing its remarkable wingspan of over 261 feet and capacity for 509 passengers.

Mayor Mike Johnston highlighted the airport’s role as a premier global travel hub: “As the new Airbus A380 takes to Denver’s skies, it reinforces our vibrant city’s status as a top-tier destination for business and leisure.” DIA recently celebrated a record year, with over 82 million passengers recorded in 2024, a nearly 6% increase from the previous year.

Flights on the A380 will operate daily from April 30 through September 30. Lufthansa has a longstanding presence in Denver, with this year marking the 10th anniversary of their service between Denver and Munich. Dirk Janzen, vice president of Passenger Airlines Sales for the Lufthansa Group, emphasized the strategic importance of this route, stating that the A380’s introduction underscores Lufthansa’s commitment to the Denver and Rocky Mountain region.

DIA boasts the longest commercial runway in the U.S. at 16,000 feet, ensuring the A380 can take off and land without concerns regarding space. The aircraft will operate from Gate A41 on Concourse A. Denver and Munich have a strong relationship, formalized through a Sister Airport agreement since 1991. This partnership has been further solidified by United Airlines, which added additional nonstop flights in 2022.

“This is a monumental occasion for DEN,” said airport CEO Phil Washington. “We are grateful for Lufthansa’s continued investment in Denver and the increased capacity this aircraft will provide.”
