An Amber Alert was issued early Tuesday morning in North Carolina following the abduction of 1-year-old Grecia Salome Alejandro-Benitez and her mother, Alondra Michelle Benitez-De Jesus. The pair were kidnapped from their home in Garner by three masked suspects armed with guns. Reports indicate that the suspects, consisting of two men and one woman, demanded $1 million from Grecia’s father, Eliuth Alejandro Martinez. When he refused to comply, they bound him with tape and took the mother and child.
Details shared by the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children describe Grecia as approximately 2 feet tall, weighing 26 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a pink pajama shirt and red and yellow striped pajama pants.
The suspects fled the scene in a black Nissan Altima, prompting a community-wide search and the issuance of the Amber Alert. Anyone with information about the case is urged to contact the Garner Police Department at 919-772-8810.
The Garner Police Department has not yet provided further comment on the situation. This incident adds to the distressing nature of recent events, including the recent stabbing of a firefighter paramedic. Melina Khan, a national news reporter for USA TODAY, is covering this developing story.
