Trial Begins for Armed Robbery of Kim Kardashian in Paris
PARIS — A trial has commenced for the armed robbery that shook high-profile celebrity Kim Kardashian in 2016, where she was held at gunpoint and robbed of millions in jewelry. Ten defendants, including nine men and one woman, face charges of robbery and kidnapping related to the shocking incident that occurred on October 2 during Paris Fashion Week.
Among the accused, only two have confessed to their involvement, while the rest deny any wrongdoing. Kardashian was reportedly tied up in her bedroom by men disguised as police officers, leading to the theft of approximately $10 million worth of valuables, including a $4 million diamond ring.
In her reality show, “Keeping Up with the Kardashians,” Kardashian described her terror during the ordeal, believing she would be raped or killed. "It makes me so upset thinking about it," she stated, recalling the chilling moment she saw one of the robbers brandishing a firearm.
Kardashian is expected to testify on May 13, reinforcing her respect for the French legal process. Initially, twelve individuals were implicated, but due to a death and serious illness among the defendants, only ten will stand trial. Dubbed the "Granddad Robbers" by the media, many suspects are older and have extensive criminal backgrounds.
Among them, 77-year-old Yunice Abbas admitted to acting as a lookout during the heist and plans to apologize in court, while 68-year-old Aomar Aït Khedache is suspected of leading the robbery.
Despite the chaos of that night, only one piece of stolen jewelry has been recovered. As the trial unfolds, the focus will be on providing justice for Kardashian and assessing the roles each defendant played in the audacious crime. The trial is set to continue until May 23, under strict French judicial procedures.
