Federal Authorities Raid Illegal Nightclub in Colorado Springs
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The owner of a Colorado Springs property, Mike Moon, expressed shock after a federal raid revealed an underground nightclub allegedly involved in drug trafficking, gang activity, and prostitution. The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) conducted the operation early Sunday morning at 296 S. Academy Boulevard, deploying over 300 law enforcement officers from multiple federal agencies.
During the raid, law enforcement detained more than 100 individuals, including active-duty military personnel and several undocumented immigrants. Authorities seized cocaine, methamphetamine, and "pink cocaine." While two arrests were made for existing warrants, DEA Special Agent in Charge Jonathan Pullen noted that charging the detainees with drug offenses may be challenging.
Moon, who stated he was unaware of any illegal activities occurring on his property, highlighted that the space is rented for events such as birthdays and weddings, emphasizing strict lease terms against illegal activities and alcohol sales. “I’ve never seen any signs of trouble,” he said, admitting he was dumbfounded by the club’s operations.
As the lease nears expiration, Moon mentioned plans for renovation at the site, revealing that the operators were instructed to vacate by the end of the month. "It’s shocking they would think this was a wise idea, especially in today’s political climate," he remarked.
Pullen confirmed that many detainees would likely face immigration-related charges, while the possibility of drug charges remained uncertain due to evidential difficulties. The incident underscores ongoing concerns around illegal activities in Colorado Springs, drawing attention to the challenges faced by property owners.
