Tragic Collision in Thornton Claims Lives of Mother’s Loved Ones
A Colorado mother is grappling with profound grief following the tragic deaths of her husband, Brian Cirbo, 38, and her 12-year-old daughter, Brooklyn Lopeman, after a devastating motorcycle accident in Thornton on April 15.
The pair was returning from Brooklyn’s volleyball practice when a 17-year-old driver collided with their Harley-Davidson motorcycle. Brian died at the scene, while Brooklyn was hospitalized but succumbed to her injuries a week later on April 22, despite being placed on life support.
Witnesses, including Brooklyn’s teammates, attempted CPR at the scene, but the severe nature of the injuries proved fatal. Brian had been conscious after the crash, urging officers to contact his wife. "By the time I arrived at the hospital, he had already passed away," Devin, Brooklyn’s mother, recounted.
Tragically, Brooklyn sustained catastrophic brain injuries from the collision, which Devin described. A GoFundMe campaign has been established to alleviate funeral costs and medical expenses.
The teenage driver, whose identity remains undisclosed, was arrested on charges of careless driving resulting in death but has since been released. Authorities are conducting an investigation to determine the crash’s circumstances. Devin emphasized the need for heightened awareness among drivers, stating, “He didn’t set out to destroy my family, but he didn’t see them.”
Reflecting on her family’s joy, she lamented the loss of both her husband and daughter. “He was the light of his children’s lives,” she remarked, fondly recalling Brian’s enthusiasm for life and children. Additionally, neighboring Brooklyn’s volleyball academy paid tribute, marking her as a beacon of joy in their community.
Devin captures the essence of their loss: “We were supposed to have a whole life still, and now it’s gone.”
