The Denver Rockies ended an eight-game losing streak with a 3-1 victory over the Washington Nationals in the second game of a doubleheader at Coors Field. Center fielder Mickey Moniak made a key circus catch and hit a two-run triple in the fourth to help secure the win. Pitcher Antonio Senzatela threw six strong innings, allowing only one run on six hits. The Rockies’ bullpen, with a 1.47 ERA in their last eight games, shut down the Nationals in the final three innings.
The Rockies’ defense also played a crucial role, with Moniak’s diving catch and Jordan Beck’s sliding grab helping to stifle the Nationals’ offense. In the first game of the doubleheader, two critical throwing errors by rookie catcher Braxton Fulford contributed to the Rockies’ 3-2 loss.
Despite the errors, Fulford and rookie right fielder Zac Veen both hit their first career home runs in the first game, becoming only the second pair of teammates in franchise history to do so in the same game. Despite some defensive miscues, the Rockies were able to rebound in the second game thanks to strong pitching and timely hitting.
The Rockies will look to build on their win and continue playing solid baseball as they aim to turn their season around. Fans can stay updated on all Rockies news by signing up for the Rockies Insider newsletter.
