Iran and the US meet in Rome to negotiate potential nuclear agreement

Iran and the United States have initiated new nuclear talks in Rome to resolve their long-standing conflict over Tehran’s nuclear goals. The discussions are being conducted indirectly through an Omani mediator between Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and Trump’s Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff. Both sides have described the first round of talks as constructive, with Araqchi emphasizing Iran’s commitment to diplomacy and the need for a reasonable and logical nuclear deal that respects Iran’s rights and lifts sanctions.

Despite some speculation about the possibility of sanctions being lifted soon, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has expressed cautious optimism. Meanwhile, Trump has reiterated his stance on preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon while maintaining his “maximum pressure” campaign against the country. Israel has not ruled out the possibility of launching an attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities in the near future.

Iran insists on maintaining its uranium enrichment capabilities and rejects negotiations on its missile program as part of the talks. Russia has offered to assist in the negotiations between Iran and the US. The outcome of these talks will be crucial in determining the future of Iran’s nuclear program and the lifting of sanctions.
