President Trump expressed confidence in reaching a trade deal with the European Union (EU) during a lunch meeting with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. Trump stated that a trade agreement is certain, emphasizing that both sides are eager to make a deal and that it will be fair. Meloni, who was praised by Trump as a great leader, also expressed optimism about securing a deal on tariffs with the EU.

The two leaders discussed a range of topics including irregular migration, synthetic drugs, trade, economy, and energy. Meloni hinted at plans to increase liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports from the US. Trump commended Meloni for her leadership and described her as a key ally in strengthening relations between the US and Europe.

Earlier, Ukrainian President Zelenskyy mentioned the signing of a minerals deal memorandum with the US and accused US envoy Steve Witkoff of spreading Russian narratives about the war in Ukraine. Meanwhile, Pope Francis made a surprise visit to a Rome prison, showing support for inmates ahead of Easter.

In other news, the Bulgarian government survived a vote of no confidence over corruption allegations, and Russia and Belarus were left out of a second World War commemoration event in Berlin due to concerns of anti-Ukraine propaganda. Venice reintroduced its tourist entrance fee, now doubled for last-minute day-trippers, to tackle overtourism.
