Protesters in Colorado joined nationwide “Hands Off!” rallies against President Donald Trump and Elon Musk over the weekend. More than 1,200 rallies were organized by over 150 groups, with demonstrations taking place all over the state, including in Denver, Boulder, Fort Collins, Loveland, Longmont, Greeley and Highlands Ranch. Protesters in Denver gathered at the state Capitol, holding signs and banners decrying Trump’s agenda and calling for power to be in the hands of workers, not billionaires.
Denver Police closed Lincoln Street between 14th Avenue and Colfax Avenue due to the demonstrations, which were in response to the administration’s actions such as federal employee firings, immigrant deportations, and rollbacks to protections for transgender individuals. Elon Musk, who leads the Department of Government Efficiency, has been spearheading government downsizing through his role. The White House responded to the protests by stating that President Trump will always protect Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid for eligible beneficiaries, accusing Democrats of wanting to give benefits to illegal aliens.
Activists have organized protests against Trump or Musk multiple times since Trump took office. The demonstrations in Colorado and across the U.S. are part of ongoing resistance to the policies and actions of the administration and are aimed at holding Trump and Musk accountable for their decisions.
