Five basketball icons, including Carmelo Anthony, Dwight Howard, Sue Bird, Maya Moore, and Sylvia Fowles, were named to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame as part of the 2025 class announced at the men’s Final Four in San Antonio. The class also includes coach Billy Donovan, NBA referee Danny Crawford, and Miami Heat owner Micky Arison. The 2008 “Redeem Team” that won gold at the Beijing Olympics will also be inducted.
Carmelo Anthony, despite not having an NBA title, built a Hall of Fame-worthy career by winning an NCAA title at Syracuse, becoming a 10-time All-Star and four-time Olympic gold medalist. Dwight Howard, known for his dominant defense and double-doubles, earned his spot in the Hall with eight All-Star selections, eight All-NBA teams, and three Defensive Player of the Year awards.
Sue Bird, Maya Moore, and Sylvia Fowles were also recognized for their exceptional careers marked by numerous championships, MVP awards, and Olympic gold medals. Bird enters the Hall as the WNBA’s all-time assists leader, while Moore’s legacy extends beyond the court with her advocacy for criminal justice reform. Fowles, a two-time WNBA champion and four-time Olympic gold medalist, was known for her dominant defense and rebounding.
The 2025 Hall of Fame class highlights the diverse and impressive careers of some of basketball’s greatest legends, showcasing their contributions to the sport both on and off the court.
