John Perucco, a skilled skier and father of three, tragically died after falling 25 feet from an icy chair lift at the Breckenridge Ski Resort in Colorado. The incident occurred on March 17, 2023, while he was visiting the resort with a friend. A wrongful death lawsuit filed by his wife, Victoria Sanko-Perucco, alleges that Perucco slid off the chair lift due to unsafe snow and ice accumulation on the seat.
Despite surviving the initial fall, Perucco succumbed to his injuries while being transported to a nearby hospital. The lawsuit claims that the ski resort attendant on duty failed to recognize the dangerous conditions and allowed Perucco to board the chair lift. Additionally, it alleges that the resort did not promptly notify the appropriate safety board for investigation.
The Breckenridge Ski Resort declined to comment on the pending litigation, while the Colorado Passenger Tramway Safety Board did not respond to requests for comment. Perucco, described as a kind man who touched many lives, leaves behind his wife and three daughters, whom he taught to be ambitious and steadfast in their goals.
This tragic incident serves as a reminder of the importance of safety measures in all aspects of skiing and winter sports. Skiers and snowboarders are urged to be vigilant and report any hazardous conditions to prevent similar accidents from occurring in the future.
