Denmark rejects Greenland criticism, cites Trump’s intervention

During Vice President JD Vance’s visit to Greenland, he pushed President Donald Trump’s agenda to acquire the country. However, Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen criticized the U.S. officials for their approach, stating that while Greenland is open to criticism, they do not appreciate the tone in which it was delivered. Vance slammed Denmark for failing to provide security to the people of Greenland, leading to tensions between the two countries.

The U.S. delegation’s visit was viewed as a step towards Trump’s desire to acquire Greenland, but it backfired after generating intense criticism in Greenland and Denmark. Some GOP lawmakers were lukewarm about the idea of annexing Greenland, with Trump’s fixation on the issue being deemed impractical.

Originally, the delegation led by second lady Usha Vance was scheduled for a three-day visit to Greenland, including a public appearance at a dog sled race. However, following the backlash, the trip was scaled back to one day and limited to the military base, with Vice President Vance joining.

Despite the criticism, Trump reiterated his desire to acquire Greenland, stating that they will get it 100%. The controversial visit highlighted tensions between the U.S. and Greenland, as well as the challenges of pursuing such an acquisition.
