Harness racer Hunter Myers tragically killed in horse-racing accident

Hunter Myers, a 27-year-old harness driver, tragically passed away after a racing accident at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows in Washington, Pennsylvania on March 19. The chain-reaction collision involved five horses and began when the lead horse made a sudden break during the race, causing Myers to be thrown from his horse-drawn cart. He succumbed to his injuries the following day.

Myers began his driving career at 16 and came from a family with a long history in harness racing. He won his first race in 2014 and went on to win 298 races over the next four years before achieving his first $1 million season in 2019. Throughout his career, he won 2,450 races and $21.7 million in purses. Myers was described as a rising star in the industry and was a three-time finalist for the U.S. Harness Writers Association’s Rising Star Award.

A GoFundMe page was set up to support his fiancée, Chloe Fisher, and their son Hayden. The page received over $80,000 in donations, highlighting the impact Myers had on those around him. Harness racing involves drivers steering two-wheeled carts, known as “racebikes,” pulled by standardbred horses. Standardbreds are known for their athleticism and intelligence, and once retired, they often serve as police or military mounts or trail-riding companions. Myers was remembered as a beloved figure in the sport who died doing what he loved.
