A man and a woman are in custody after a brief chase through multiple communities in the Denver metro area, involving a hit-and-run crash and a barricaded suspect in a condo unit. The incident began when a deputy tried to stop a car at Parker Road and East Mississippi Avenue on Saturday morning, leading to a high-speed pursuit that ended with a crash at South Dayton Street. While the woman in the car was taken into custody, the man managed to flee on foot and barricaded himself in a condo building in nearby Aurora.
Aurora police SWAT team responded to the scene at the Rain Tree Condos on East Evans Avenue, where the man was holed up. Despite flashbang grenades being heard at the scene, there were no reports of injuries or hostages. The area surrounding the incident was shut down, causing disruptions in the neighborhood.
After several hours, the man was finally taken into custody around 12:30 p.m. The SWAT team’s response and successful resolution of the situation ensured the safety of the residents and brought the chase and standoff to an end. The Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office and Aurora police worked together to apprehend the suspects and restore peace to the affected communities.
