After 50 years of leading Denver’s creative scene, the Mercury Cafe is closing its doors. The venue, known for comedy, music, poetry, and food, will transform into The Pearl, a bar catering to LGBT women and nonbinary individuals while still welcoming everyone. The owners plan to retain some of the Merc’s programming. The Farewell Party & Ballroom Open Mic will take place on March 27, with cheap drinks and guest performances.
In Edgewater, Barquentine Brewing celebrates its fifth anniversary with a party featuring live music, food, wine, and cocktails. The brewery has added a menu specializing in bierock, a savory pastry sandwich originating from Eastern Europe. Inspired by a 75-year-old family recipe, bierocks include classic beef, sauerkraut, and mozzarella, as well as other variations.
Beer enthusiasts can check out Wanderment Brewing’s Kölsch release in Denver, offering a traditional German-inspired brew.
Australian rock band Amyl & The Sniffers, known for their high-energy performances, will play at the Mission Ballroom in Denver on March 31. The band’s North American Tour will feature a mix of old favorites and new material from their latest album.
On April 1, chef Jeremy Wolgamott will host a pop-up dinner at Create Kitchen and Bar in Aurora. The event will showcase Southern-style dishes reflecting his Denver and Louisiana upbringing, with a focus on family-style meals using Colorado ingredients. Tickets include a three-course dinner featuring dishes like hushpuppies, barbecue chicken, and mac and cheese.
