Kermit The Frog Delivers University of Maryland’s Commencement Address

Kermit the Frog, a beloved Muppet character created by UMD alumnus Jim Henson, will deliver the commencement address at the University of Maryland’s ceremony for the classes of 2024 and 2025. Henson, who graduated from UMD in 1960, created Kermit from simple materials as a way to bring his creativity to life. Kermit’s appearance at the ceremony honors the connection between UMD and Jim Henson, who went on to create the Muppets. UMD President Darryll J. Pines expressed excitement about having Kermit the Frog speak at the graduation ceremony, noting the significance of Henson’s legacy and the impact his creations have had on the world. The commencement ceremony will take place on Wednesday, May 21 at SECU Stadium, with gates opening at 5 p.m. and the student processional beginning at 6 p.m. Kermit expressed his happiness in being able to address the graduating classes and offer words of encouragement as they take the next steps in their journey. The university is looking forward to celebrating the accomplishments of its graduates and welcoming a special guest like Kermit to inspire and motivate the graduating students.
