HP Acquires Humane, Creator of the Ai Pin, in $116 Million Deal

Humane, the once ambitious start-up behind the Ai Pin device that aimed to revolutionize the smartphone industry, has agreed to sell parts of its business to HP for $116 million. HP plans to acquire Humane’s A.I. capabilities, software platform, patents, and some employees. Sadly, the Ai Pin will be shut down as Humane shifts its business focus.

The downfall of Humane, which raised $240 million in funding and was valued at $850 million before releasing a product, marks the end of a dream for husband-and-wife founders Imran Chaudhri and Bethany Bongiorno. The wearable device failed to meet expectations, with reviewers criticizing its A.I. software and battery performance.

Despite this setback, HP sees value in Humane’s technology, as it seeks to enhance its laptops with A.I. capabilities. HP plans to integrate Humane’s technology into a new innovation lab called HP IQ, focusing on building an intelligent ecosystem across its products and services.

Humane’s founders, along with most of its employees, will join HP as part of this acquisition. HP has emphasized its commitment to investing in and innovating new A.I.-powered capabilities to deliver cutting-edge technology to its customers.

As Humane bids farewell to the Ai Pin and shifts its focus, HP seizes the opportunity to enhance its offerings and become a more “experience-led company” through A.I.-powered technology.
