King Soopers workers end strike at midnight after 100 days of negotiations for ‘peace’ | Business

The recent grocery workers’ strike against King Soopers is coming to an end following an announcement made by the grocer and United Food & Commercial Workers Union Local 7. The strike, which began on Feb. 6 and was scheduled to last two weeks, is ending early as both parties have reached a return-to-work settlement. This agreement includes a 100-day period of labor peace as negotiations for a new deal continue. As part of the settlement, King Soopers has agreed not to implement any offers for a minimum of 100 days and not to keep union workers out. Additionally, provisions have been made to ensure workers will not lose their healthcare in April due to lost work-hours during the strike.

UFCW Local 7 President Kim Cordova expressed satisfaction with the agreement, emphasizing that staffing is a key concern for both workers and customers. King Soopers President Joe Kelley echoed this sentiment, stating that the company’s main focus is reaching a fair agreement that honors the hard work of their employees.

Both parties are looking forward to resuming normal business operations at King Soopers locations starting on Feb. 19. This agreement not only brings an end to the strike but also restores certainty for employees and customers alike. Overall, the resolution of the strike represents a step forward in ensuring the well-being of King Soopers employees and the continued provision of fresh, affordable groceries for the community.
