CU Buffs DL coach Damione Lewis leaves for Miami – The Denver Post

Damione Lewis, the defensive line coach for the Colorado football team, played a significant role in the team’s defensive improvement in 2024. However, he has now decided to leave the Buffaloes to return to his alma mater, the University of Miami, where he will coach the defensive tackles. Lewis, who had a year left on his contract with CU, will owe the university $87,500 to terminate the contract early.

Lewis was initially hired as a defensive analyst by CU head coach Deion Sanders but was later promoted to the defensive line coach position. Together with edge coach Vincent Dancy and graduate assistant Warren Sapp, Lewis helped the Buffs’ front seven become one of the best in the Big 12, leading the conference in sacks and tackles for loss.

With Dancy leaving for Mississippi State last month, Sapp is now the only remaining member of the coaching trio. Lewis, a former all-Big East player at Miami and a first-round draft pick in the NFL, brings a wealth of experience to his new role at Miami. Before joining CU, he worked with the Seattle Seahawks and served as an assistant athletic director at Florida International.
