The Senate confirmations for Donald Trump’s cabinet nominations are ongoing, with several controversial selections being approved. Trump’s nominees need a majority vote in the Senate, where Republicans currently hold a slim majority. Some of the notable nominations that have been confirmed include Russell Vought as head of the office of management and budget, controversial energy secretary Chris Wright, and former New York congressman Lee Zeldin as environmental protection agency administrator.

Longtime Trump ally Pam Bondi has also been confirmed as attorney general, billionaire hedge fund manager Scott Bessent as treasury secretary, former NFL player Scott Turner as housing secretary, South Dakota governor Kristi Noem as homeland security secretary, and Doug Burgum as interior secretary, with Doug Collins confirmed as veterans affairs secretary.

One of the most contentious confirmations was defence secretary Pete Hegseth, who needed a tie-breaking vote to be approved after allegations of misconduct surfaced. Additionally, secretary of state Marco Rubio, CIA director John Ratcliffe, and others have made it through the confirmation process.

Some nominees have faced criticism, such as Chris Wright disputing the links between climate change and wildfires, and Lee Zeldin seemingly shifting his stance on climate change. The confirmation of these nominees will shape the direction of the Trump administration in the coming years.
