The Colorado Avalanche showcased their new dynamic duo in a 4-2 victory over the Calgary Flames. Nathan MacKinnon and Martin Necas stood out, with MacKinnon tallying three assists and Necas scoring two goals and an assist. Necas has been impressive since joining the Avs, with three goals and eight points in seven games. The Avalanche had a slow start but dominated the second period, outscoring the Flames 3-0. Cale Makar scored his 20th goal of the season, becoming one of eight defensemen in NHL history to achieve three 20-goal seasons in the first six years of his career. Artturi Lehkonen also notched a goal, setting a new career-best for him with 22 this season. Necas sealed the victory with his second goal of the game in the third period, assisted by Sam Malinski. Despite a strong performance, the Avs had an early challenge with penalties leading to a Flames goal in the first period. The top line of MacKinnon and Necas displayed chemistry throughout the game, with MacKinnon trying to set up Necas for a hat trick in the closing moments. The Avalanche will be without injured defenseman Josh Manson in their next game, but they hope to have him back after the 2025 4 Nations Face-Off break.
