“Тревожное увеличение” в казнях украинских военнопленных, говорит миссия ООН по правам человека

A recent report from the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine has revealed a disturbing trend of Ukrainian POWs being executed by Russian troops. Since the end of August, 79 such killings have been recorded in 24 separate incidents, with many soldiers being shot dead on the spot after surrendering. The report also highlighted the use of dehumanizing language by Russian officials when referring to Ukrainian prisoners of war, further exacerbating the situation.

The UN mission pointed out that public figures in Russia have explicitly called for inhumane treatment and execution of captured Ukrainian military personnel, creating an environment that enables violations to occur with impunity. The report also noted that Russian forces frequently document and share the executions of Ukrainian soldiers on social media channels, a clear violation of international humanitarian law.

In response to these atrocities, Ukrainian authorities are working to document and investigate each case, with the Prosecutor General’s Office informed of ongoing efforts to document Russian war crimes. Despite laws exempting Russian military personnel from accountability, efforts are being made to hold those responsible for these executions to justice.

The UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine continues to monitor the situation closely and work towards bringing an end to these violations of international humanitarian law. The report serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for action to protect the rights and dignity of all individuals, regardless of their nationality or status as prisoners of war.
