The Colorado Black Health Collaborative is addressing the healthcare disparities in the Black community by creating the Colorado Black Health Resource Directory. Started in 2010, this directory lists Black doctors, Advanced Practice Providers, dentists, and community support systems to empower the community to make informed decisions about their health. Originally a hard-copy book, the directory is now available online, thanks to the collaboration with Connect For Health Colorado.
India Bonner, a medical student, was inspired to pursue a career in medicine after noticing the lack of Black physicians in the Denver metro area. She hopes to focus on improving access to care and elective surgery for Black patients in the future. Bonner’s story is just one example of individuals in the community working towards bridging the healthcare gap and creating a more inclusive healthcare system.
The Colorado Black Health Resource Directory serves as a valuable tool for residents to find healthcare providers who understand their unique needs and experiences. It highlights Black health-oriented organizations and aims to connect the community with resources that can improve health outcomes for Black Coloradans. As the directory continues to grow and expand, it will play a crucial role in ensuring equitable access to healthcare for all members of the Black community in Colorado.
