Boulder authorities investigate series of car burglaries in Colorado

Authorities in Boulder County are warning residents about an uptick in vehicle break-ins, with seven incidents reported since January 17. Thieves are targeting cars to steal garage door openers, which they then use to access homes and steal valuables like snowboards, skis, and bicycles. These break-ins are occurring between 3 a.m. and 5 a.m. all across Boulder County, with some victims leaving car doors unlocked and others having their windows broken. The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office is advising residents to double-check that their car doors are locked, remove personal documents with addresses from vehicles, and never leave garage door openers inside cars. They also emphasize that thieves are looking for easy targets and to report any break-ins immediately to law enforcement. Sheriff’s Sergeant David Salaman recommends being aware of license plate numbers and reprogramming garage door codes if openers are missing. With the increase in break-ins, authorities are urging vigilance from residents to prevent further incidents.
