Arctic Blast Delivers Frigid Temperatures and Snow Accumulation to Denver Region | News

Arctic Blast Hits Denver, Bringing Snow and Frigid Temperatures

Denver is currently enduring an arctic blast that has dropped several inches of snow across the region from Friday evening into Saturday morning. This powerful cold front, according to the National Weather Service in Boulder, will lead to an estimated 114 consecutive hours of below-freezing temperatures in the metro area.

As of Saturday morning, temperatures hovered around a frigid 11 degrees, with snowfall continuing throughout the day. The snow is expected to taper off later in the afternoon, although temperatures will remain in the single digits on Sunday, and another round of snow could develop by evening. By Monday morning, Denver could see an additional 1-2 inches, with lows plunging to around -12 degrees. Wind chill factors are also a concern, potentially dropping to -20 degrees by Sunday night and near -30 by Monday.

Snow accumulations varied across the metro, with west Lakewood receiving the most at 7 inches. Other totals included 4.5 inches near East Colfax and Monaco Parkway, and 5.5 inches in Edgewater. The highest measurement reported was west of Golden, at 13.5 inches. Snow is expected to continue accumulating through Saturday afternoon.

Despite the snowy conditions, Denver International Airport reported only 2 inches of snow by Saturday morning, resulting in minimal disruptions to flights; only 66 flights were delayed, with no cancellations.

While road crews are actively plowing to keep roads accessible, drivers are warned that conditions remain dangerous due to ice and frigid temperatures. As of Saturday morning, all roads in the region remained open, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.

Residents are advised to exercise caution and stay updated on weather developments as the cold snap continues.
