UCLA extended remote learning through January 17 due to the Palisades Fire encroaching near campus, Chancellor Julio Frenk announced. The decision applied to both undergraduate and graduate courses, with Monday classes also moved to remote learning. The fire had burned 22,660 acres with 11% containment and thousands of structures threatened. Evacuation warnings were in place near the campus, and UCLA Health continued operations while treating wildfire-related injuries. A women’s basketball game was postponed due to the fire. Students were advised to stay vigilant and be prepared to evacuate if necessary. More information and updates about the fire and evacuation orders were available on the Cal Fire website.
