Suspects Arrested After $5,000 Worth of OxyContin Stolen from Aurora Walgreens

AURORA, Colo. — Two individuals were apprehended following the theft of approximately $5,000 worth of OxyContin from a Walgreens store on Tuesday evening. The incident occurred at 6:48 p.m. at the Walgreens located at 18620 E. Iliff Avenue.

The Aurora Police Department responded to the theft after store employees deployed a hidden SIERRA GPS tracking device within the stolen narcotics. This quick action enabled Aurora911 dispatchers to monitor the stolen OxyContin’s location and relay it rapidly to responding officers.

The suspects made their way to a nearby Walgreens at East Smoky Hill Road and South Aurora Parkway, where police were waiting for them. Upon arrival, the suspects attempted to flee, leading to a brief pursuit. One officer sustained injuries during the chase and was transported to a hospital for treatment, with the severity of the injury currently undisclosed.

Thanks to the swift coordination between Walgreens staff and law enforcement, police successfully recovered the stolen OxyContin along with a firearm that was in the suspects’ possession. The incident highlights the effective use of technology in mitigating drug-related crimes and ensuring public safety.
