Eastbound I-70 Lanes Reopened in Colorado Mountains Following Multi-Vehicle Accident

Multi-Vehicle Crash Shuts Down I-70 in Clear Creek County

Georgetown, CO – A significant multi-vehicle accident on Tuesday afternoon resulted in the closure of the eastbound lanes of Interstate 70, just west of Georgetown. The Colorado State Patrol (CSP) confirmed that the crash, involving at least nine vehicles, was caused by a semi-truck hauling cars around 12:45 p.m. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries, but the accident resulted in extensive traffic backups.

The closure, spanning from exit 226 Silver Plume to exit 228 County Road 381, left eastbound traffic at a complete standstill, causing frustration for many drivers. According to the Clear Creek County Sheriff’s Office, westbound traffic remained unaffected during the incident. Emergency crews worked diligently to clear the scene and investigate the circumstances leading to the crash.

As of approximately 3:45 p.m., the eastbound lanes of I-70 were reopened, allowing traffic to resume its normal flow. However, the CSP continues its investigation into the crash to determine the specific cause of the incident.

Motorists are reminded to exercise caution and to be aware of potential delays in the area as cleanup efforts conclude. Further updates will be provided as the investigation unfolds.

This incident highlights the ongoing issue of traffic safety on Colorado’s roadways and the importance of driver awareness, particularly in adverse conditions and heavy traffic situations.
