BYU Dominates Colorado 36-14 in Alamo Bowl
SAN ANTONIO (AP) — In a decisive matchup at the Alamo Bowl, No. 17 BYU triumphed over No. 20 Colorado with a commanding score of 36-14, marking their second consecutive bowl victory and their third in four recent appearances.
L.J. Martin was a standout for BYU, rushing for 88 yards and scoring two touchdowns, while quarterback Jake Retzlaff contributed significantly with 151 passing yards. BYU showcased a well-rounded offensive effort, scoring in every quarter of the game and continually putting pressure on the Buffaloes.
Colorado struggled throughout the contest, managing only 210 total yards with a meager two yards rushing. Quarterback Shedeur Sanders was under duress, facing three sacks and throwing two interceptions. Despite completing 16 of 23 passes for 208 yards and two touchdowns, Sanders could not effectively lead his team against BYU’s formidable defense. His highlight came late in the third quarter when he connected with Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter for a 43-yard touchdown pass, marking Hunter’s four receptions for a total of 106 yards.
This defeat was particularly painful for Colorado, who faced a formidable BYU team that executed its game plan with precision. The result solidifies BYU’s status as a competitive force in college football, demonstrating their ability to rebound after last season’s disappointment.
As BYU celebrates their victory, Colorado will aim to regroup and strategize for the upcoming season, looking to leverage lessons learned from this challenging bowl experience.
