Authorities in Wisconsin reported that a second-grade student called 911 to report a shooting at Abundant Life Christian School, where two people were killed and six others were injured. Police Chief Shon Barnes expressed astonishment at the young child’s quick thinking in calling for help during the chaotic situation. The shooter was identified as Natalie Rupnow, who died by suicide after the attack. Barnes praised the teachers and students for their rapid response to the shooter, with teachers initiating a lockdown and the second-grade student calling for help. Despite the tragedy, Barnes commended the swift actions taken by the school community, including the teachers and students who followed safety protocols. The shooting occurred during a study hall period with students from multiple grades. Barnes also highlighted the training that 911 dispatchers have in guiding children through difficult situations. Five students and one teacher were injured, with two students in critical condition but now stabilized. The school has around 390 students enrolled in grades K-12. The incident has left the community reeling, especially with the knowledge that a young child was the one to alert authorities to the violence unfolding at their school.
