Wheat Ridge Police Arrest "Professional Drinker" with High BAC

Wheat Ridge, CO – In a startling incident earlier this month, local police apprehended a man who dubbed himself a “professional drinker” after he was involved in a multi-vehicle crash with a blood alcohol content (BAC) exceeding four times the legal limit.

On December 4, just after 5:30 p.m., Wheat Ridge police responded to the scene of the collision at the 2600 block of Wadsworth Blvd. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. Upon arrival, officers encountered a suspect who candidly admitted to consuming around ten drinks prior to the accident. Body camera footage captured the man’s boastful claim of being a "professional drinker."

Authorities conducted a breath test upon his arrest, revealing a staggering BAC of 0.326, significantly above Colorado’s legal limit of 0.08 for driving under the influence (DUI).

The Wheat Ridge Department noted a troubling trend in DUI-related incidents, citing a 36% increase in DUI crashes and a 27% rise in DUI arrests within the jurisdiction up to October of this year. The police department issued a stark reminder: “We would prefer you don’t get behind the wheel after drinking, even if you’re a ‘professional.’”

This case serves as a sobering reminder of the dangers associated with excessive drinking and driving, as local authorities continue their efforts to combat the rising statistics of drunk driving in the community.
