Parts of Malibu are currently under mandatory evacuation as firefighters work to control the Franklin Fire. The fire started near Pepperdine University and has spread to consume 1,822.4 acres of land. Multiple structures, including the Malibu Pier, are being impacted by the fire. Most of Malibu has had its power shut off as firefighters battle the blaze. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The LA County Fire Department and LA County Sheriffs are conducting evacuations door-to-door in affected areas. Residents are urged to follow evacuation instructions from police and fire officials. The fire was discovered after a red flag warning was issued by the National Weather Service for most of Ventura and Los Angeles counties due to critical fire conditions. The warning is expected to remain in place until Wednesday evening.
