Denver Gazette Spotlight: Weekend Festivities in the Mile High City
As the holiday season kicks into full swing, Denver invites residents and visitors alike to partake in an array of exciting weekend events. This Saturday, the highlight is the 9NEWS Parade of Lights, celebrating its 50th year. Starting at 6 PM, this dazzling parade will illuminate downtown Denver with festive floats, gigantic character balloons, musical bands, and appearances by Santa and Major Waddles the Penguin. Spectators can enjoy the spectacle along a two-mile route from 14th and Bannock to Glenarm.
Other festive parades include Boulder’s Lights of December, beginning at 6 PM, and the 40th Festival of Lights Parade in Colorado Springs, featuring 100 lighted entries and Olympic-style grand marshals. Parker also gets into the holiday spirit with a Holiday Mart and Christmas Parade earlier in the day.
For a whimsical twist, Breckenridge will host its quirky Race of the Santas at 4:20 PM. Meanwhile, Denver’s Lower Highland transforms into Santa’s Little Man Ice Cream Factory, offering holiday-themed activities and treats throughout the season.
On Friday, fans can join the Colorado Springs Switchbacks’ celebration at Weidner Field, honoring their USL championship victory, while on Saturday, the Highlands Ranch Mansion will host a holiday celebration featuring wagon rides, games, and tours from 10 AM to 3 PM.
For unique experiences, consider the Elf Goat Yoga session in Westminster, where participants in elf costumes can do yoga alongside adorable goats. Art enthusiasts can enjoy the "Santa’s Big Red Sack" at People’s Building in Aurora, promising laughter through sketch comedy and improv.
