Amnesty International Alleges Israel’s Genocide in Gaza During Israel-Palestine Conflict

On Thursday, Amnesty International released a report titled, “You Feel Like You Are Subhuman”: Israel’s Genocide Against Palestinians in Gaza, which asserts that Israel’s actions in Gaza meet the legal threshold for genocide. The report is based on extensive research, including witness interviews and analysis of evidence. Amnesty claims that Israel has committed acts banned by the 1948 Genocide Convention, such as indiscriminate killings of civilians and causing harm to Palestinians.
Despite Israeli authorities denying allegations of genocide and claiming self-defence, Amnesty found evidence of genocidal intent in statements made by Israeli officials. The report also criticizes the international community for failing to pressure Israel to end its actions in Gaza, citing a “seismic, shameful failure” to intervene.
Amnesty’s Secretary-General, Agnes Callamard, called for immediate action to stop the genocide in Gaza and for governments to take strong international measures. She condemned the intentional destruction of Palestinians and urged the international community to move beyond expressions of regret and take concrete steps to address the situation. The report also highlights the role of Israeli officials in dehumanizing Palestinians and justifying genocidal acts.
The international community’s failure to intervene and Israel’s continued actions in Gaza are a cause for concern, according to Amnesty. The report calls for accountability for Israel’s violations of international law and emphasizes the urgency of ending the genocide in Gaza.
