Woman sentenced to 25 years for DUI-related crash

Jamie Lee Komoroski, a South Carolina woman, was sentenced to 25 years in prison for driving drunk and causing a fatal crash that killed a newlywed bride and injured three of her family members. Komoroski pleaded guilty to charges of reckless homicide, felony DUI causing death, and felony DUI causing bodily injury. She admitted in court that she had an addiction to alcohol and took responsibility for her actions.

The incident occurred on April 28, 2023, just hours after Samantha Miller’s wedding ceremony. Komoroski crashed into the couple’s golf cart, killing Miller and injuring her husband and two family members. Data from Komoroski’s rental car showed she was driving at 65 mph and had a blood alcohol content of 0.261, more than three times the legal limit.

A wrongful death lawsuit was filed by Miller’s husband against Komoroski and the establishments that served her alcohol. Hutchinson was awarded over $863,000 in settlements from three bars, Komoroski’s insurance company, and the car rental company. In court, Hutchinson emotionally described his injuries and shared the last moments he had with his wife on the night of the crash.

Komoroski’s sentencing serves as a reminder of the devastating consequences of drunk driving and the importance of taking responsibility for one’s actions. Hutchinson expressed remorse and regret over the tragic loss of his wife, highlighting the impact of the incident on him and his family.
