Broncos Secure 41-32 Victory Over Browns in High-Scoring Affair
In a thrilling matchup on Monday night, the Denver Broncos claimed a 41-32 victory over the Cleveland Browns, thanks in part to a game-sealing interception return by Ja’Quan McMillian. With just 1:48 left on the clock, McMillian intercepted Browns quarterback Jameis Winston, returning it 44 yards for a touchdown that cemented the win for the Broncos.
Winston showcased an impressive performance, becoming the first quarterback in NFL history to throw for over 400 yards, four touchdowns, and two interceptions returned for touchdowns, setting a franchise record with 497 passing yards. His go-to target, wide receiver Jerry Jeudy, also excelled, setting a record for the most receiving yards against a former team with 235 yards on nine receptions, including a 70-yard touchdown. However, the Browns’ efforts fell short, leading to a disappointing loss and a 3-9 season record.
Denver’s Bo Nix displayed remarkable skill as well, throwing for 294 yards, highlighted by a stunning 93-yard touchdown pass to Marvin Mims Jr. The Broncos built momentum early with touchdowns from running backs Javonte Williams and Michael Burton, as they worked to stabilize their offense.
Despite Cleveland leading 32-31 after a five-yard touchdown pass from Winston to Nick Chubb, the Broncos regained the lead with Wil Lutz’s 27-yard field goal late in the game. Cleveland’s final drive was thwarted by McMillian’s timely interception, ensuring the Broncos (8-5) remain alive in the playoff picture, now holding the seventh seed.
Head coach Sean Payton acknowledged the win wasn’t perfect, but praised the team’s ability to finish strong. With their first playoff appearance since 2015 on the horizon, the Broncos look to build off this decisive victory as they enter their bye week.
