White House brightens up for the holidays with decorations symbolizing peace and joy

The White House was decorated for the 2024 holiday season with a theme of “A Season of Peace and Light,” as announced by First Lady Jill Biden. The decorations included a Gingerbread White House in the State Dining Room, a vintage red truck near a portrait of former President Barack Obama in the Grand Foyer, and ornaments on Christmas trees crafted as self-portraits by students from across the country. The Red Room featured white paper doves carrying messages of peace and drawings from children to the President and First Lady. There were a total of 83 Christmas trees throughout the White House, along with approximately 9,810 feet of ribbon, over 28,125 ornaments, and more than 2,200 doves used to decorate the residence.

The decorations were showcased in various rooms such as the Cross Hall, Center Hall, Green Room, and Diplomatic Reception Room. The holiday display also included illuminated gift boxes under the Red Room’s Christmas tree and ornaments in the Vermeil Room and China Room.

Overall, the White House was transformed into a festive and welcoming space for the holiday season, with careful attention to detail and elements of peace and reflection incorporated into the decorations. The decorations reflected a sense of unity and celebration, with a special focus on including children and students in the holiday display.
