Metro Denver Police involved in Multiple Officer-Involved Shootings
Metro Denver has witnessed a series of officer-involved shootings recently, marking a troubling trend in escalating confrontations with armed suspects. Lakewood Police reported their latest incident early Monday morning, resulting in the death of an armed man who allegedly threatened officers. The altercation unfolded around 3:30 a.m. when police were dispatched to investigate a possible trespassing situation near Best Buy. Upon arrival, the man reportedly displayed a firearm and aimed it at the responding officers, prompting them to return fire. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The man’s identity has not yet been released, pending notification of next-of-kin, and the involved officers have been placed on administrative leave for an internal investigation.
This incident follows another shooting on Saturday involving the Adams County Sheriff’s Office. Officers shot a man wielding an axe during a welfare check at a residence on Heather Place. The suspect was pronounced dead on Sunday after being hospitalized with injuries from the confrontation.
Additionally, on Thanksgiving night, Aurora Police encountered an armed man in an apartment complex after reports of gunfire. The suspect allegedly ignored multiple commands to drop his weapon and instead discharged his firearm multiple times at the officers. In this case, police returned fire, striking the suspect, who was transported to the hospital and is expected to survive his injuries.
As the situation develops, investigations are underway by the Critical Incident Response Team and the District Attorney’s office to examine the circumstances surrounding these violent encounters with law enforcement. More updates are anticipated as the investigations progress.
