LAKEWOOD, Colo. — A tragic incident unfolded Monday morning outside a Best Buy in Lakewood, resulting in the death of one individual following an officer-involved shooting. According to the Lakewood Police Department, the situation began at approximately 3:32 a.m. when two officers responded to a trespassing report in the Belmar area.

Upon arrival, police encountered a suspect who allegedly displayed a firearm. In response to this perceived threat, the officers discharged their weapons. The suspect was subsequently transported to a local hospital but was later pronounced dead. Fortunately, no law enforcement officers were injured during the incident.

The identity of the deceased man has not been disclosed as authorities are awaiting notification of his family. The two officers involved have been placed on paid administrative leave in accordance with department policy while the incident undergoes a thorough investigation.

Authorities have closed W Alaska Drive between S Wadsworth Boulevard and S Vance Street as they coordinate their investigation, although no timeline has been provided for when the thoroughfare will reopen to the public.

In a message shared on social media, the Lakewood Police Department confirmed that all officers were unharmed during the altercation and urged the community to avoid the area while the investigation is ongoing.
