Officer-Involved Shooting in Adams County Following Welfare Check
Adams County, CO – A routine welfare check turned tragic on Saturday afternoon when deputies shot an armed man at a home in the 7600 block of Heather Place. The man, who was reportedly holding an axe, later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital, as announced by the Adams County Sheriff’s Office on Sunday morning.
The incident began around 4:42 p.m. when deputies responded to a call regarding the man’s well-being. After several minutes of interaction, the situation escalated when the suspect approached the deputies while still armed. Despite multiple commands for him to drop the axe, shots were fired around 5:20 p.m.
The injured man was immediately transported to the hospital, though the severity of his injuries at that time was not disclosed. Thankfully, no deputies were harmed during the confrontation. In light of the shooting, four deputies have been placed on administrative leave as part of standard procedure following such incidents. The sheriff’s office has yet to determine the exact number of deputies involved in the shooting.
The 17th Judicial District Critical Incident Team is leading the investigation, which involves accurate accounting of all rounds fired and interviews with witnesses and deputies who were on the scene. As authorities continue to gather information, the sheriff’s office is committed to ensuring a thorough review of the incident.
