California Man Arrested for Attempted Sex Trafficking in Denver
DENVER — A 48-year-old man from California, Murlin Swanston, has been arrested for allegedly attempting to recruit two women in Denver for his sex trafficking operation. The announcement was made on Monday by Denver District Attorney Beth McCann, who detailed the troubling actions that began in 2021.
Swanston reportedly reached out to thousands of women nationwide through various online platforms in an effort to include them in his illicit activities. Investigators were alerted to his activities by a commercial sex worker. The informant expressed concerns about Swanston’s persistent harassment, stating that he appeared to operate under a facade of legitimacy with a website and social media presence.
The investigation revealed that Swanston’s social media accounts contained numerous videos and images that referenced prostitution and included explicit allusions to pimping. Prosecutors believe there are likely more victims in the Denver area and are urging anyone affected by Swanston’s actions to come forward. Potential victims are encouraged to reach out to Investigator Joe DeAngelo in the DA’s Human Trafficking Unit at 720-913-9108.
Currently, Swanston is being held in California, and formal charges against him will be filed upon his extradition to Colorado; however, a timeline for this extradition has not yet been established.
This case highlights the ongoing concerns surrounding human trafficking and the importance of community vigilance in reporting suspicious activities. Authorities are committed to addressing these issues and protecting at-risk individuals.
