5 individuals missing following boat overturning in Alaska, according to the Coast Guard

Multiple people are missing after a fishing boat capsized near Point Couverden, southwest of Juneau, Alaska. The U.S. Coast Guard and good Samaritans are searching for the individuals aboard the fishing vessel Wind Walker, which overturned in cold waters. It is estimated that there were five people on board, but this number is subject to change pending new information. The Coast Guard received a mayday call from the vessel and initiated a search operation. An emergency position-indicating radio beacon was activated, indicating the distress signal originated near Point Couverden. Despite rough weather conditions, including heavy snow, strong winds, and rough seas, search crews are working diligently. The Coast Guard is using the Cutter Healy as the main search platform. Although there are reports on social media claiming individuals have been located, the Coast Guard has not confirmed this information and is continuing their search efforts. Point Couverden is located on Couverden Island in Haines Borough, Alaska. Search crews have discovered cold-water immersion suits and strobe lights in the water. The missing individuals are still unaccounted for, and the search and rescue operation continues to locate them.
