Press Release: Denver’s Inaugural Dashing Thru LoDo Holiday Fun Run Celebrates Local Businesses
DENVER – Over 100 festive runners embraced the holiday spirit during the first-ever Dashing Thru LoDo Holiday Fun Run in Denver on Saturday morning. Organized by Union Station, McGregor Square, and Dairy Block, the 1k run was designed to showcase local businesses on Small Business Saturday, starting at Union Station and culminating at the Christmas tree in McGregor Square.
Participants joined in the festivities, dressing up in costume as reindeer, Santa Claus, and even the Grinch. "We’re hoping that people will be incentivized to come to LoDo and shop," said Sigri Strand, communications director for Union Station. The event coincided with a broader effort to support local businesses still recovering from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
This year alone, Colorado has seen a surge in entrepreneurship, with nearly 139,000 new business applications filed, marking a remarkable 115% increase compared to last year, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Strand noted a growing number of new businesses and a revitalized customer base in the area, emphasizing, “It’s a great festive scene here. We’re trying to come together to bring awareness to our spaces.”
With the aim of branding the run as a new Denver tradition, local officials hope this event will continue to promote community and support for LoDo businesses during the holiday season. Participants enjoyed exclusive discounts at various nearby establishments post-run, combining fitness with local shopping.
