Aurora City Council to Interview Finalists for Vacant Council Seat
Aurora, CO – The Aurora City Council is set to interview three top candidates for an open council seat on Monday, following the resignation of Dustin Zvonek, the former mayor pro tem. The interviews will take place at 2:30 p.m. and will be open to the public via livestream on AuroraTV.org and YouTube, as well as local cable channels.
After receiving 34 applications, councilmembers narrowed the field to three finalists: Amsalu Kassaw, Danielle Lammon, and Jonathan McMillan.
Amsalu Kassaw is a lieutenant at GEO Group Inc.’s ICE processing center and a community advocate. He has earned recognition, including the Aurora City Community Service 2024 award, and aims to solve community issues through public service. Kassaw holds an associate degree from Addis Ababa University in Ethiopia.
Danielle Lammon, the owner of Danielle Shannon Insurance Agency and chair of the Citizens Advisory Budget Committee, has a background in enhancing public safety and community initiatives. With a bachelor’s degree in biology from Metro State University and advanced certification in project management, Lammon is passionate about serving her community.
Jonathan McMillan brings over 30 years of experience in violence prevention and public health, currently serving at the Trailhead Institute. He aspires to foster safety, affordable housing, and community opportunities in Aurora.
Following the interviews, councilmembers will reconvene at 6:30 p.m. for their regular meeting, during which they will vote on an ordinance to repeal the city’s pit bull ban and appoint a new mayor pro tem. Public comments will be accepted from those who submit speaker slips by 6:30 p.m. on the day of the meeting.
