A group of students from the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity at the University of Colorado Boulder is set to embark on a remarkable endeavor called Pike on a Bike. They will ride a stationary bike outside the University Memorial Center for 8,423 minutes straight in memory of Magnus White, a young cyclist who was tragically killed by a driver last summer. The goal of the event is to raise $100,000 for The White Line Foundation, a nonprofit organization started by Magnus’ parents, Jill and Michael White, to honor their son’s legacy.
The fraternity members, along with Jill and Michael White, will ride the bike non-stop from November 2 to November 8, representing the number of cyclists and pedestrians killed nationwide in recent years. The event will be live-streamed, and donations can be made to support the cause.
The White Line Foundation aims to raise awareness, create proof that demands action, and build a national network focusing on young people impacted by similar tragedies. Jacqueline Claudia, the organization’s executive director, emphasizes the importance of using AI and data analysis to drive change in road safety.
The event not only serves as a tribute to Magnus but also as a call to action for safer driving practices and support for those affected by road accidents. The fundraiser will help The White Line Foundation expand its efforts to make a significant impact on road safety and honor the memory of Magnus White.
