Contractor Who Allegedly Stole $1.3M from Marshall Fire Victims Enters Guilty Plea

An Aurora contractor in Boulder County, Colorado, pleaded guilty to stealing over $1 million from four families affected by the Marshall Fire. Leona Scott took money from the families for construction work but did not complete the projects and was not properly licensed. He was arrested for theft and pleaded guilty to a Class 3 felony. The court will determine if Scott will face prison time or probation, but he agreed to pay $1,738,770.05 in restitution. Boulder County District Attorney Michael Dougherty commended the Sheriff’s Office and prosecution team for securing the conviction and restitution, stating that Scott preyed on those impacted by the fire.
