Israel issues warning to new Hezbollah leader as countdown begins following series of killings in Middle East

An air strike carried out by Israel in northern Gaza has resulted in at least 93 people either killed or missing, according to the territory’s Hamas-run health ministry. The US, Israel’s key ally, has condemned the attack in the town of Beit Lahiya as a “horrifying incident with a horrifying result” and has reached out to the Israeli government for clarification. State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller expressed concern over reports that children were among the dead and emphasized the need for Israel to achieve a strategic success while also ensuring the security of its citizens.

The US had previously urged Israel to improve the humanitarian situation in Gaza within 30 days or face potential restrictions on military aid, but progress has been deemed insufficient. The UN Human Rights Office has called for a prompt and transparent investigation into the attack, which left several bodies outside a bombed building.

Witnesses described the house as being bombed without warning, resulting in numerous casualties. The Palestinian Civil Emergency Service reported that around 100,000 people are trapped in the area without access to food or medical supplies, with doctors being forced to evacuate a nearby hospital. The situation in Gaza remains dire as the conflict continues to escalate.
